Finding Balance: Powerful Resources to Life's Challenges

The 2006 Region A Conference will be held March 31st through April 2nd at California State University, Chico. The conference workshops cover a wide range of topics which will appeal to the professional as well as the student.

Join us in this celebration of learning and knowledge. Come support both current and future women in engineering. Come meet new people and make new friends. Come have fun!

Workshops

This year's conference offers a variety of workshops that have been grouped into 5 tracks.

A good balance of the things that make us happy, drive us crazy, and sooth us, makes for a fulfilling life. Workshops in the Balance Track teach you how to eat healthy, balance different aspects of your life, and realize when you're trying to accomplish too much.

The Technical Track is geared toward the professional, giving examples of various company projects, and successful approaches to project management. The robotics workshop will appeal to all those who are interested in artificial intelligence applications.

Learning how to decorate cakes, ballroom dance, and throw a wine and cheese party are all part of the Recreation Track. With all we need to accomplish, we need take some time to relax and learn something just for you.

The Career Skills Track workshops are geared toward those entering the workplace, and entirely submerged in it. Learn how to transition from student to professional, and volunteer in your community for your business.

Does your section need more members? Would you like ideas for more outreach activities? The Society of Women Engineers Track will provide some of the answers to these questions, and help you get more out of your SWE membership!

Black Crow Grill & Taproom
The Black Crow is known for its Modern California Cuisine served in a comfortable friendly atmosphere. This dinner will be semiformal, so dress for a night on the town, and come have great food and meet new friends.

Bidwell Mansion Gadget Tour
We have arranged for a special tour of the historic Bidwell Mansion. We will learn what kind of 'gadgets' were around during the old days, and what they were used for.

Sierra Nevada Brewery Technical Tour
The Sierra Nevada Brewery staff has graciously allowed to lead us in a technical tour of their facilities, detailing how their daily operations work, and the various engineering professions that are necessary for the process. Lunch is included in the price!

Creekside Cellars Tour and Workshop
We will not only be exposed to the high society associated with wine and cheese, but learn how to throw a classy wine and cheese party! Creekside Cellars will provide us with three kind of wine and cheese, and we will enjoy tastes and good times on their beautiful grounds. (Must be 21 years of age or more to attend!)

Judy Sitton, Retired Executive, SunGard Bi-Tech - Plans and Other April Fool's Jokes
"Life is what happens when you're making plans" by John Lennon.
Plans imply a strategy and strategies don't always work or come to be. However, achieving balance in your life as a lifestyle offers support for the expected and unexpected. Let yourself be guided by a personal mission and purpose statement that comes from the heart and follows a path rich in experiences, satisfaction and growth. And this isn't an April Fool's joke!

Louise Stark, Associate Dean University of the Pacific - "Th-Th-Th-That's All Folks! Now What?" - A wrap-up of the conference along with thoughts how to use what you learned.
