Scholarship

Golden Gate Section Program

Program Summary
Each year, SWE-GGS awards a number of scholarships to young Bay Area women graduating from high school and going on to pursue degrees in engineering and other related degrees. Our section has one of the top five scholarship programs as ranked against other SWE sections across the nation, awarding more than $20,000 each year to local students.

Application Process
Applications for this year will be sent to Bay Area high schools in January and are due back on April 02, 2010. The application form and additional details are available by clicking on the link below.

Click here for FY10 Blank Scholarship Application (Microsoft Word Format).
Please note, page 1 of the application will be updated to correct the banquet date, when available.

Applications are judged on a set of diverse criteria that seeks to find highly qualified and well-rounded individuals with serious commitment to pursuing engineering as a profession. Applications are evaluated on:

  • Scholastic achievement (G.P.A.)
  • Activities
  • Work experience
  • An essay by student
  • Reference letters (2) from teachers, counselors, employers
  • Transcripts
  • Completeness of application (Due April 2, 2010)

Selected students are notified of a scholarship award in mid-spring and receive recognition at the annual Golden Gate Section banquet typically held on a Thursday evening at the UC Berkeley Faculty Club.
